Music Theory Level II

Designed for the student who has a solid understanding of the fundamental concepts covered in Level I. This level will expand the student’s understanding of the elements of music coupled with an introduction to common compositional techniques.
The course will consist of highly engaging videos as well as live lectures.

In this level you will learn about:

Pitch melody. Practical application will include composing a coherent melodic line using techniques of repetition and sequence

Rhythm irregular stresses in simple meters. Practical application will include incorporation of synocation, accents, and hemiola

Harmony chromatic triads. Practical application will include the incorporation of chromatic chords (secondary functions, borrowed chords) into harmonic progressions

Timbre sound qualities of the instruments of the four string instruments (violin, viola, cello, and double bass)

Form analysis of larger common musical structures. Simple binary and ternary forms
