Music Theory Level III

Designed for the student who wishes to further expand their knowledge of more complex uses of the elements of music. This level will expand your ability to compose for two or more voices: enable you to compose using compound meter; enable you to incorporate extended teritan harmonies; and introduce you to the principles of orchestration and new formal structures.
The course will consist of highly engaging videos as well as live lectures.

In this level you will learn:

Pitch voice leading. Practical application will include composing for two or more independent voices using the principles of voice leading

Rhythm introduction to compound meter

Harmony introduction to seventh chords. Application will include function and resolution of dominant seventh chords, diminished seventh chords as well as minor/minor seventh chords

Timbre study of the standard complement of orchestral instruments: woodwinds, brass, percussion, and strings

Form analysis of larger common musical structures. Theme and Variations; Sonata Form
